Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) may be safely locked away behind bars, but that doesn’t mean her torment of Coronation Street’s top cop Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) has ended.

Lisa spent four years dreaming of seeing her wife just once more, after she was killed in a hit-and-run. But when Becky returned to her life last summer, it quickly became clear that the reality of having Becky around was more like a nightmare.

The second coming of Becky Swain had an agenda, and she proved that she was willing to go to great lengths to get what she wanted – a chance to be a family again with Lisa and daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin).

And things very nearly worked out for her, with Lisa and Betsy set to join her in Spain, until Lisa’s world collapsed with one phone call.

From the very start, Carla Connor (Alison King) had a hunch that Becky was dodgy. She could see clearly that Becky’s main objective was to split her and Lisa up, and though the factory boss tried to warn Lisa, the detective was frightened of Betsy losing her mum again.

Soon, Becky got her wish when Carla and Lisa broke up, but with Carla still snooping around for dirt on the former officer, Becky needed a more permanent solution.

The opportunity arose when she caught Carla looking for evidence in her flat. With Carla’s family and friends believing that she was on her way to Lanzarote for a solo holiday, no one realised that Becky had kidnapped her to keep her from exposing the truth.

Fortunately, Carla is nothing if not resilient, and she somehow managed to survive until Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) worked out where Becky had left her to die.

What followed was a dramatic chase as Carla and Kit sought to track down the Swains – only fate would intervene and see them collide head-on with Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), who were having an equally traumatic day.

The crash came as a result of Carla calling Lisa to tell her everything, which distracted Becky and caused her to take her eyes off the road.

With Lisa having been exposed to Becky’s true nature, she brought an end to the whole ordeal by placing her under arrest.

Unfortunately, Becky was never going to go down that easily. Unwilling to give up on winning back her family, she sent Lisa a visiting order – though we don’t imagine she was planning on the conversation going the way Lisa had in mind.

Just as she promised Carla she would, Lisa announced to Becky that she was dead to her, and that Carla was the love of her life.

Devastatingly, Becky had one last trick up her sleeve.

She made it very clear to Lisa that she was prepared to bring her down with her, painting her as an accessory to all of her crimes. She pointed out that Lisa had never asked how they paid off their mortgage so quickly, and had turned a blind eye to other such things.

Becky warned that by the time she was done, everyone would believe that Lisa was just as guilty as she was, and had known about Becky’s crimes from the very start.
