WARNING: spoilers for Spartacus: House of Ashur episode 7 ahead.

It's not a fantastic time to be Korris (Graham McTavish) in Spartacus: House of Ashur. At the end of episode 6, we found out that his secret lover Opiter (Arlo Gibson) had been brutally murdered by the Brothers Ferox, and now he's on the warpath.

What does this mean for the newly lone wolf villain? I spoke to Gill about filming the scene – something that quickly became "heavier than anyone anticipated."

"Graham McTavish is a wonderful man and an incredible actor, and terrifying when he gets going in those fights," Gill tells me. "It was a lot of fun. Obviously, we did a lot of the training for the stunts with Allan Poppleton. Him and his team are amazing.

"But it's one thing, rehearsing those scenes in the gym... everything's just numb. The costumes, the heavy swords and shields, are a bit different. When you're on the sand and you've got the hair and the sweat and the lights on you, it feels so real. It's very intense, but he's an amazing scene partner.

"I don't think everyone was expecting it to get quite so as heavy as it did, but it felt so real."

Even just as a viewer, I can see why. The ending of Spartacus: House of Ashur episode 7 has probably the most emotionally-charged fight scene we've seen to date, and as Satyrus lies defeated on the ground begging for mercy, we do begin to feel sorry for him. Whisper it, but I think his journey is about to completely change in the Starz show.

"I think that's the thing throughout, is the brotherhood between them. They're both very big episodes for us, six and seven," Gill adds. "I think that's the first time when you start to understand why Satyrus has been so nasty and loud and outspoken the whole time. He's got the responsibility as the big brother to protect the other two. And I think the smallest dog always barks the loudest.

"Satyrus suddenly realized a lot of his emotion was for show and to maintain the reputation that they had. So, I think that's what was keeping him alive."
